The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic,war-time veterans organization, devoted to mutual helpfulness.  It is a community-service organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members, men and women, in nearly 15,000 American Legion posts worldwide.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, with its Auxiliaries, includes 2.3 million members in approximately 8,400 Posts worldwide.  Its mission is to "honor the dead by helping the living" through veterans' service, community service, national security and a strong national defense.

With more than 1.2 million members, Disabled American Veterans is an organization of disabled veterans who are focused on building better lives for disabled veterans and their families.
