Edward M. Kowalczyk, Jr., 90, of Crucible, Pa., died at 9:55 P.M. on Friday, April 27, 2007 at Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, Pa. He was born February 16, 1917 in Detroit, Mich., a son of the late Edward Michael Kowalczyk, Sr. and Marcella (Honocki) Kowalczyk. Mr. Kowalczyk attended Cumberland Township High School and resided in Crucible most of his life. During World War II, he served with the U. S. Army in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Kowalczyk was employed by the Crucible Fuel Company Mine until the mine closed and then worked for Alcoa Aluminum in Cleveland, Ohio until his retirement on February 16, 1979. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carmichaels, a former member of the United Methodist Men and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Mr. Kowalczyk enjoyed woodworking and dart ball. In November of 1945 he married Irene Sabo, who died January 28,1977. Surviving are two daughters, Alta M. Pratt and her husband, Pete of Rices Landing, Pa. and Aldra M. Kowalczyk of Medina, Ohio; three grandsons, Peter L. Pratt and his wife, Tricia, Paxton A. Pratt and his wife, Kim and Preston J. Pratt and his wife, Paddy; four great grandchildren, Mason, Madison, Parker and Gavin Pratt; a sister, Peggy Blassingham of Norfolk, Va. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a great grandson, Patrick Robert Pratt; three brothers, Otto Kowalczyk, Henry Kowalczyk and Chester Kowalczyk and four sisters, Sophia Pratt, Mary Collins, Jenny Litten and Virginia Barovian. Family and friends are welcomed from 5 to 8 P.M. on Monday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels, Pa. where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 with the Rev. Roger C. Saunders officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, 104 W. South St., Carmichaels, PA 15320.
