Zigmond J. Bokat

Zigmond J. Ziggy Bokat, 61 of Carmichaels, Pa. died at 2:15 A.M. Friday, September 11, 2009 in the Donnell House, Washington, Pa. following a lengthy illness. He was born June 20, 1948 in Waynesburg, Pa. a son of Wanda (Jankowski) Bokat of Carmichaels and the late John Michael Bokat. Ziggy was a 1967 graduate of Carmichaels High School and a 1971 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Engineering. He worked for McMillan Engineering and also as the Business Manager for Bokat Enterprises. Ziggy lived all of his life in Carmichaels and was a pillar of the community. He was a member of St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, where his love of music led him to become the choir director for many years. Ziggy was also an usher, CCD teacher and Eucharistic minister in the church. He achieved the privilege of being a 4th degree Knight with the John F. Kennedy Memorial Council 3569 Knights of Columbus, Carmichaels. Ziggy was also a member and past president of the Carmichaels Joint Sewer Authority Board, past member and past president of the Carmichaels Area School Board, member of the King Coal Association and past parade chairman, member of the Optimist Club and Jaycees Club all of Carmichaels. He was head of the District for Little League Umpires Association. In 1978 he was a founding member and the chairman of the WANA-B Park in Carmichaels. Ziggy loved to travel and particularly enjoyed going to the beach. He was the rock of his family, whom he loved and cherished as well as his beloved dog Duke.

Surviving in addition to his mother is a brother Charles Chuck Bokat and his wife, Mary of Carmichaels; two sisters, Joyce Peccon and her husband, Greg of Carmichaels, and Wanita Nita Cirota and her husband, John of Carmichaels; nieces and nephews, Lisa Morales and her husband, Joe, Jennifer Henry and her husband, John, John Tony Cirota, Michael Peccon and his wife, Scarlett, Brynn Cirota, John Michael Bokat, Ryan E. Cirota and Barbie Bokat; great niece and nephews, Danica Titus and Colton and Brett Henry. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins.


Family and friends are welcomed from 2 to 4 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. Saturday and Sunday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where a Blessing Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 14, 2009 followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 A.M. in St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. John M. Bauer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels. A Vigil Service will be held in the funeral home Sunday at 3:45 P.M.
