Charles Metcalf

Charles E. "Sonny" Metcalf, 76 of Greensboro, Pa., died at 7:45 P.M. on Friday, October 20, 2006 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown W. Va. He was born August 25, 1930 in Monongahela Township, Greene County, Pa., a son of the late Cecil D. and Pansy I. VanFossen Metcalf. Mr. Metcalf attended Mapletown High School and resided in the Greensboro area all of his life. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a life member of American Legion Post 499 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 747 of Point Marion, Pa. Mr. Metcalf was a former member of the former Poland Mines Assemblies of God Church. He retired in 1993 from the Duquesne Light Warwick Mine after 43 years. Mr. Metcalf was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club No. 1932 of Point Marion and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 461, Waynesburg, Pa. He enjoyed woodworking and made numerous lawn ornamental windmills. Mr. Metcalf was an avid gardener and enjoyed football, cooking and baking. He cherished the company of his dog, Buddy. Mr. Metcalf embraced the company of his family, especially his grandchildren. On June 25, 1954, he married Levenia M. "Beanie" Fleming, who survives. Also surviving is a son, Duane D. Metcalf and his wife, Maureen of Dallas, Tex.; three daughters, Patricia A. Wilkins and her husband, Jim of San Diego, Cal., Barbara J. Critney of Carmichaels, Pa. and Judy I. Metcalf of Greensboro; eight grandchildren, Brianna Metcalf, Cody Metcalf, Stephanie Gross, Paul Gross, Jamie Wilkins, Kelly Wilkins, Bobby Wilkins and Shayla Critney; a brother, Cecil Metcalf, Jr. of Carmichaels; a sister, Dorothy Black of Garards Fort, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are an infant son, Charles Edwin Metcalf and a sister, Maxine Kovach. Family and friends are welcomed from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Monday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 with Pastor Fred W. Tomlinson officiating. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown, Pa. with full military honors accorded by American Legion Post 499 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 747. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
