Hazel Mae Lewis Grooms, 91, of Uniontown, Pa. and formerly of Carmichaels and Masontown, Pa., went home to be with the Lord and her loved ones in heaven at 4:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Mt. Macrina Manor, Uniontown, Pa. She was born June 21, 1916 in Royal, Redstone Township, Fayette County, Pa., a daughter of the late Charles Chafant and Anna (Lanham) Baker. Mrs. Grooms resided in Carmichaels since 1975 where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She worked as a waitress and cook at the former Ralston's Restaurant and Mojock's Restaurant in Masontown for about 20 years and was a former member of the Masontown United Methodist Church. Mrs. Grooms was a member of the Carmichaels Senior Center and a former member of the United Methodist Women and the Church Choir. In August of 1934, she married Wilbur Ellsworth Lewis, who died May 4, 1962. On August 10, 1975, she married Ira Wesley Grooms, who died May 23, 1987. Mrs. Grooms was kind, loving and a witness to everyone that she met and was a blessing to her family. Surviving are a son, Wilbur "Ricky" Lewis and his wife, Genevieve of Chalk Hill, Pa.; three daughters, Shirley Parisi and her husband, Joseph of Taylor, Mich., Janet Williams and her husband, Paul of Lemont Furnace and Hazel "Wanda" Dobish of Footedale, Pa.; a step son, Ira Glen Grooms and his wife, Doris of Somis, Cal.; a step daughter, Wilma Shaffer and her husband, Donald of Willoughby, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; numerous step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Lewis of Fort Wayne, Ind. and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. Deceased are a son, Charles R. "Bucky" Lewis, two brothers, Charles Baker and Roy Baker, three sisters, Bernice Welsh, Florence Spear and Emily Brennan and two step daughters, Doris Wiggens and Velda Dillow. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Monday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. and at the First United Methodist Church, Carmichaels from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., the hour of service on Tuesday, October 2, 2007. The Rev. Roger C. Saunders will officiate. Interment will follow at Masontown Cemetery, Masontown, Pa. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, 104 West South Street, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
