Helen Mae Ward, 78 of St. Clairsville, Ohio and formerly of Nemacolin, Pa., died at 3:12 P.M. on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa. She was born June 1, 1928 in Triadelphia, W. Va., a daughter of the late John Issac and Beulah (Penn Woody) Green. Mrs. Ward attended Clarksville Elementary School and East Bethlehem Township High School and retired after 17 years as a seamstress for Bobbie Brooks Clothing Manufacturing in Bellaire, Ohio. She was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Bellaire where she served as a Deaconess, Trustee and with the women's ministry. Mrs. Ward was a member of the Women in Search of Excellence committee of the Church and served as program chairperson for the pastor's anniversary celebration. She treasured the company of her family and friends and cherished her grandchildren. Mrs. Ward enjoyed playing bingo and attending family reunions. On October 10, 1947, she married Thomas J. Ward, Sr., who died January 20, 1989. Surviving are a son, Thomas J. Ward, Jr. of Harrisburg, Pa.; two daughters, Uraina Mae Bradby and her husband, Stanley, Jr. of South Riding, Va. and Karen A. Simpson of Wintersville, Ohio; a step son, Hubert Ward and his wife, Debbie of Fort Washington, Md.; a step daughter, Rena Ward of Maryland; seven grandchildren, Danielle Sears, Brandy West, Michael Simpson, Brock A. Ward, Thomas Jefferson Ward, III, Timothy Ward and Eric Ramsey; five great grandchildren; six sisters, Geraldine Wilson and her husband, the Rev. Melvin Wilson of Lawrence, Pa., Icie Green and Virginia Abrams, both of Clarksville, Pa., Edna Clements of Daisytown, Pa., Evelyn Miller of Buffalo, N. Y. and Ruthann Bell of Bentleyville, Pa.; two brothers-in-law, Andrew J. Ward and his wife, Mae of Landover, Md. and Israel Ward, Jr. and his wife, Audrey of Carmichaels; three sisters-in-law, Willianne Lewis of Houston, Tex., Blanche Ward of Plant City, Fla. and Gloria Ward of Woodbridge, Va. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are five brothers, Harrison Woody, Kermit Woody, Edward Green, Howard Green and Philip Green; two sisters, Roxie Woody and Mary Thomas; two brothers-in-law, Booker T. Ward and Franklin D. Ward; a sister-in-law, Stella J. Moses and her father and mother-in-law, the Rev. Israel and Mattie Ward. Family and friends are welcomed from 4 to 7 P.M. on Sunday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels, Pa. and from Noon to 1:00 P.M. on Monday, October 30, 2006 at the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, 104 E. Greene Street, Carmichaels. The Rev. Harold O. Kelley and the Rev. Melvin Wilson will officiate. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in support of breast cancer awareness to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
