William Hess

William P. Hess, Sr., 89 of Clarksville, Pa., died at 9:00 A. M. on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in his home. He was born October 6, 1916 in East Millsboro, Pa., a son of the late Thomas C. and Alma Teresa Withrow Hess. Mr. Hess served with the U. S. Army in the European Theater during World War II and retired in 1981 from the Republic Steel Corporation Clyde Mine in Fredericktown as outside maintenance foreman. He had worked at the mine for 43 years. Mr. Hess was a member of the Pitt Gas Missionary Church where he had served as Sunday school superintendent, church board member and treasurer. At the time of his death, he was attending Clarksville Missionary Church. Mr. Hess was a member of Hanson Cole American Legion Post 391 of Fredericktown, Pa. and enjoyed restoring antique cars and gardening. He was mechanically inclined and devoted his entire life to serving his church community and its ministries throughout the years. On October 6, 1984, he married Nellie M. Lorence Leichliter, who survives. Also surviving are a son, William P. Hess, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Millsboro, Pa.; five daughters, Lois Jean Kennedy of Ravenna, Ohio, Janice Manen and her husband, Carlos of Ashburn, Va., Terri Wescott and her husband, Reggie of Clearwater, Fla., Leianne David and her husband, George of Houston, Pa. and Jennifer Giannoutsos and her husband, Theo of Finleyville, Pa.; two step sons, Charles W. Leichliter and his wife, Sharon of Diamond, Ohio and David N. Leichliter and his wife, Barbara of Carmichaels; two step daughters, Diane Krall of Crucible, Pa. and Valerie Decker and her husband, Dennis of Indiana, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; 10 step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Hess and his wife, Ruth of Stow, Ohio and Ewing Hess and his wife, Toni of Bedford, Ohio; a sister, Virginia Davey of Columbus, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Ruth Hess of Maryland and several nieces and nephews. He was married to Eileen White Hess, who died July 31, 1983. Also deceased is a brother, Thomas Hess; four sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Leamen, Doris McCormick, Eva H. Whoolery and Nellie J. Hartley and a step daughter, Dorothy Jean Rohrer. Family and friends are welcomed from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P. M. on Friday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels and from 10:00 A. M. until 11:00 A. M., the hour of service on Saturday, July 1, 2006 with the Rev. Domenick Sgro officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park with full military honors accorded by Hanson Cole American Legion Post 391. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Pitt Gas Missionary Church.
