Kenneth B. Tanner, Sr.

Kenneth B. Tanner, Sr., 84, of Mapletown, Pa., died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at his home. He was born December 19, 1922 in Mapletown, a son of the late Roy and Plezzie (Clark) Tanner. Mr. Tanner served in the U. S. Army in the Phillipines during World War II and coached little league in Greensboro in the 1960's. He worked for the Duquesne Light Warwick Mine for about 28 years retiring in 1984. He also served as Mononghela Township (Greene County) Supervisor and Secretary for a total of 32 years. Mr. Tanner was a Protestant and a member of Duquesne Light Local 6310 of the United Mine Workers of America, American Legion Post 945 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6303 of Greensboro. He enjoyed gardening, lawn work and was an avid follower of the Duke Blue Devil basketball team. On May 24, 1947, he married Betty J. Cox, who died December 23, 1998. Surviving are two sons, Roy E. Tanner, who resided with his father and Dennis K. Tanner and his wife, Nury of Rosella Park, N. J.; two daughters, Linda R. Dugan and her husband, James of Greensboro and Rhonda K. Turner and her husband, Roger of Mapletown; six grandchildren, Nathaniel Turner, Zachary Turner, Ann Tanner, Christopher Tanner, Justin Tanner and Kiley Dugan; three step grandchildren, David, Nicole and Michelle; a daughter-in-law, Janet Tanner of Toledo, Ohio and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sons, Ronald Ray Tanner and Kenneth B. Tanner, Jr.; two brothers, Edgar Tanner and Orville Tanner and three sisters, Mabel M. Watson, Doris C. Ganocy and Mary E. Tedrow. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Saturday and Noon to 3 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Sunday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 26, 2007 with Pastor Kenneth A. Haines officiating. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown with full military honors accorded by the U. S. Army, Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 6303 & 3491 and Cumberland American Legion Post 400.
