Linda Shimek

Linda L. Shimek, of Carmichaels, passed away unexpectedly at 4:10 P.M. on Sunday, June 10, 2007 surrounded by her loving family at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W. Va. She was born in Washington, D. C., a daughter of Evelyn M. (Thomas) Shiflett of Carmichaels and the late James C. Shiflett. Mrs. Shimek was a graduate of Carmichaels Area High School and resided in Carmichaels most of her life where she was a member of the First Christian Church. She was employed for the past 18 years as a food service worker at the Carmichaels Area Elementary Center where she was a member of S. E. I. U. Local 3. Mrs. Shimek was an avid scrabble player and enjoyed walking, gardening, reading, attending yard sales, auctions and craft shows. She was a loving and caring person and was affectionately referred to by her grandchildren as "Nanny". On March 21, 1985, she married Michael B. Shimek, who survives. Surviving are two sons, James P. Shipley and his wife, Donna of Carmichaels and Kenneth Burke Shipley and his wife, Holly Lee of Greensboro, Pa.; a daughter, Melinda Renee Shipley of Morgantown; two grandchildren, Miranda Ryan and Abigail Noel Shipley; two sisters, Joyce Ann Clark and her husband, Don of Monroeville, Pa. and Rose M. Montgomery and her husband, Tom of Carmichaels and several loving nieces, nephews and in-laws. Her first husband, James E. Shipley, passed away August 15, 1982. Family and friends are welcomed from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa. where funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 with the Rev. Domenick Sgro officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Amercan Red Cross, Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter, P.O. Box 371997, Pittsburgh, PA 15251.
