Mona Ruth Clark, 86 of Waynesburg, Pa., died at 1:05 P.M. on Friday, April 18, 2008 in the Washington Hospital, Washington, Pa. following a short illness. She was born July 21, 1921 in Rogersville, Pa., a daughter of the late Forrest Earl and Mary (Grinage) Cowan. Mrs. Clark was a graduate of Waynesburg High School. During World War II, she served as a nurse assistant with the American Red Cross and treated wounded servicemen as they returned from combat. For this work, she was recognized in 2007 by the Veterans Department and received the Military Order of the Purple Heart Honors. Mrs. Clark was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge in Waynesburg where she worked as a banquet facilitator for many years. She was also employed in the office department of G. C. Murphy Company for 12 years before taking a position with the Central Greene School District at the Margaret Bell Miller Middle School. Mrs. Clark retired from Margaret Bell in 1987 after 25 years of service. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and cooking. After her retirement, she resided at home in Waynesburg until 2002 when she moved to the Golden Living Center. In 1946, she married John William Clark, a U. S. Army Air Corp World War II veteran, who died in 1950 in an automobile accident. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra A. Headlee and her husband, Homer Headlee, Jr. of Carmichaels, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Homer Headlee, III, Marianne Strope and her husband, Larry, Ed Headlee and his wife, Mary, David Headlee and his wife, Alice, Linda Coode, Michael Headlee and his wife, Janet, Cheryl Cloutier and Amy Gomez and her husband, David; 25 great grandchildren, Tim Headlee, Bethany Headlee, Christian, Evin and Falisatie Gomez, Juanita Jones, R. C. Cloutier, Tanya Conard, Steven Strope, Amanda Mortenson, Jennifer, Avery, Miranda and Jasmine Strope, Alice and Renda Butler, Catherine Headlee, Christian Holmes, David and Amber Headlee, Stacey and Chucky Varner, Tommy Coode, Lilly Robuck and Zachary Henderson; 15 great great grandchildren, Lydia, Michael and Jacob Strope, Blake, Travis, Anna and Spencer Conard, Olivia, Nathan, Rebekah and Madison Mortenson, Morgan Henderson, Jonathan Butler and Caitlyn and Amber Jones; a sister, Thelma Jane Henderson of Waynesburg; a brother, Guy Victor Cowan of Morgantown, W. Va. and three nephews, Bill Henderson, Steve Henderson and John Henderson. Deceased is a great great grandson, Matthew Strope. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Monday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The funeral service will follow the visitation on Monday, April 21, 2008 in the funeral home at 8:00 P.M. The Rev. Roger C. Saunders will officiate.
