Paul Herbert Shipley

Paul Herbert Shipley, 84 of Carmichaels, Pa., died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 after an extended illness. He was born November 8, 1923 in Youngwood, Pa., a son of the late Edward James and Laura E. (Rosensteel) Shipley. Mr. Shipley resided in Cumberland Township, Greene County most of his life and had attended the First Christian Church of Carmichaels. He attended schools in Dearth and South Union Township in Fayette County, Pa. In 1941, he joined the Frick District as a laborer along side his father at the Filbert Mine and successively worked at the Palmer, Filbert and Maxwell Mines as a mine machine repairman and machinist. While at the Karen Mine in 1955, he became a machine repairman first grade and two years later, maintenance foreman - surface. In 1962, he began working at the Maple Creek Mine as maintenance foreman - underground, where he retired in 1982. Mr. Shipley participated in several U. S. Steel management courses and was an avid golfer, bowler, camper and boater. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be sadly missed and remembered forever in his family's hearts. In July of 1943, he married Edna Jean Campbell, who died December 15, 2006. Left to cherish his memory are two sons, David Allan Shipley and his wife, Tammy of Masontown, Pa. and Paul Richard Shipley and his wife, Claudia of Carmichaels; a daughter, Deborah Stull and her husband, William of Carmichaels; six grandchildren, Amber Stull Whipkey, James, Kenneth, Lisa, Tricia and Melinda; several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Shipley was the brother of Robert, Virginia, Lillian and Lois. Deceased are a son and his wife, James Edward Shipley and Linda L. Shimek and a daughter, Terri Lynn Shipley, who died in infancy. Family and friends are welcome from 5 to 8 P.M. on Thursday and Noon to 2 P.M., the hour of service on Friday, March 14, 2008 in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The Rev. Domenick Sgro will officiate. Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Red Cross, Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter, 225 Blvd of the Allies, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
