Raymond L. Rankin

Raymond L. Rankin, age 85 of Carmichaels, Pa., died Thursday, April 3, 2008 in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg, Pa. following a lengthy illness. He was born January 27, 1923 in Palmer, Pa., a son of the late John Lewis and Nora L. (Guesman) Rankin. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served as a Boatswain's Mate First Class aboard the USS Chester in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Rankin owned and operated Ray's Tire Service in Fredericktown, Pa. for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carmichaels and a former member of the United Methodist Men's Group. Mr. Rankin was also a member of the USS Chester Association and enjoyed attending the reunions when his health allowed. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. On February 27, 1943 he married Isabel M. Crowl, who together, celebrated over 65 years of marriage. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son William L. Rankin of Carmichaels and a daughter Susan C. Frye and her husband Victor, of Carmichaels; five grandchildren Michelle S. Frye, Carolyn A. Berry, Robin Shrader, James Rankin and Sherri Whipkey; eight great grandchildren; a sister Annabelle Pratt of Carmichaels and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son Robert R. Rankin, a brother Edward Rankin and a sister Betty Lindsay. Family and friends are welcome from 1 to 8 P.M. Friday and 11 to 1 P.M. Saturday, April 5, 2008 the hour of services in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The Rev. Roger C. Saunders will officiate. Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels.
