Steve Yelenik, 82 of Dilliner, Pa., died at 5:10 P.M. on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at the Madison Center, Morgantown, W. Va. He was born December 22, 1923 in West Brownsville, Pa., a son of the late William and Susan (Orban) Kormos Yelenik. Mr. Yelenik resided in the Dilliner area most of his life and served with the rank of Coxswain in the U. S. Navy in the European and African theater during World War II. His flotilla participated in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. In 1987, he retired after 45 years of employment at the Shannopin Mine in Bobtown, Pa. Mr. Yelenik was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 747 of Point Marion, a member of the Bobtown Rod and Gun Club and the Bobtown Polish American Citizens Club. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, farm work and the outdoors. Mr. Yelenik cherished the company of his family, especially his grandchildren. On October 4, 1949, he married Ruth S. Nopwasky, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Gerald Yelenik and his wife, Amy of Greenville, S. C., Robert Yelenik at home, Richard C. Yelenik and his wife, Michele of Jessup, Md. and Michael Yelenik and his wife, Sandra of Dilliner; five grandchildren, Natalie R. Yelenik, Zachary R. Yelenik, Stephen M. Yelenik, Tiffany N. Yelenik and Marissa K. Yelenik; a brother, William Yelenik, Jr. of Bobtown; three sisters, Margaret Brunner of Wickliffe, Ohio, Elizabeth West of Austintown, Ohio and Betty Wilson and her husband, Paul of Kirkland, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Stephen Yelenik, Jr.; two brothers, Joe Kormos and John Yelenik and two sisters, Frances Sarli and Pauline Kormos Miller. Family and friends are welcomed from 7 to 9 P.M. on Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Friday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels, Pa. where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 16, 2006 with Pastor Gale Cobb officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, Pa.
