Irene Underwood

Irene Underwood, 77, of Crucible, Pa., died at 10:40 A.M. on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at her home. She was born February 19, 1929 in Waynesburg, Pa., a daughter of the late Blaz and Agatha Gerich Filipovich. Mrs. Underwood was a graduate of Cumberland Township High School in Carmichaels and resided in Crucible since June of 1995. She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of Crucible and a former member of the Rosary Society. Mrs. Underwood enjoyed playing bingo, bowling and working jigsaw puzzles. On August 21, 1948, she married Sam Underwood, Jr., who died March 25, 2006. Surviving are a daughter, KathyAnn McAlanis and her husband, Robert of Crucible; two sons, Ron Underwood and his wife, Judy of Belvidere, Ill. and Larry Underwood and his wife, Georgia of Apollo Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jessica McAlanis and Bethany McAlanis; two brothers, Frank Filipovich and his wife, Madeline of Schlott, N. C. and George Filipovich and his wife, Dorothy of Stafford, Va.; a sister, Angelina Begovich of Crucible and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Charles (Chizzie) Filipovich and Jack Filipovich and a sister, Rose Reed. Family and friends are welcomed from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Friday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Carmichaels, Pa., where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 9, 2006, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Crucible with the Rev. John M. Bauer as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Crucible. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday in the funeral home.
