Walter V. Smith

Walter V. Smith, 79, of Greensboro (Cabbage Flats), Pa., died at 1:30 P.M. on Sunday, February 17, 2008 in his home. He was born June 28, 1928 in Petersburg, W. Va., a son of the late John D. and Nellie Grace (Kile) Smith. Mr. Smith resided in the Greensboro area since 1965 and was a Methodist. He was a member of Local 667 of the Boiler Makers Union in Charleston, W. Va. Mr. Smith was a member of the Sadler Mountain Hunting Club in Petersburg and the Circle Club in Uniontown, Pa. He cherished the company of his family and enjoyed fishing, hunting and looked forward to special family gatherings. Surviving are his wife, Norma J. (Goldizen) Smith; three sons, Vernon L. Smith and his wife, Sheila of Smithfield, Pa., Sheldon Gene Smith of Hazelton, W. Va. and David Allen Smith and his wife, Norma of Morgantown, W. Va.; eight grandchildren, Julie Ann Sines and her husband, David, Jenna Leigh Smith, James Vernon Smith, Jordan Ann Smith, Aaron McCrobie, Kathryn McCrobie, Alexandria McCrobie and Eric Smith and his wife, Jennifer; a great granddaughter, Emily Sines; six brothers, Richard D. Smith and his wife, Shirley of Petersburg, Donald R. Smith and his wife, Hazel of Corning, N. Y., Carroll W. Smith and his wife, Norma of Dorcas, W. Va., John Junior Smith and his wife, Geraldine of Petersburg, Charles Smith and his wife, Joan of Petersburg and Thurman Smith and his wife, Linda of Keyser, W. Va.; two sisters, Lucy Taylor of Petersburg and Phyllis Fritz of Baltimore, Md. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sisters, Maxine Smith and Betty Hefner. Family and friends are welcomed from 7 to 9 P.M. on Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Tuesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 with Pastor R. Scott Teets officiating. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown, Pa.
