Jerome G. "Jerry" Urda, 73 of Franklin, Tenn. and formerly of Saverna Park, Md. and Nemacolin, Pa., died early Sunday morning, September 28, 2008 in his home. He was born September 21, 1935 in Nemacolin, a son of the late Andrew T. and Emma P. (Borzik) Urda. Mr. Urda played football for Cumberland Township High School in Carmichaels, Pa. when the team won the WPIAL Class B football championship in 1952. He went on to play football for four years at West Virginia University during which time W. V. U. played the University of Georgia in the 1953 Sugar Bowl. Mr. Urda was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in Waynesburg, Pa. and a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Franklin. He served with the U. S. Army from May 27, 1958 until May 26, 1960. Mr. Urda owned and operated URTS II Sales, Inc. in Maryland. Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Deborah Kramer and her husband, David of Miami Beach, Fla. and Lisa Biederman and her husband, Jeff of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Richard B. Urda and his wife, Louise of Bridgeport, W. Va.; a sister, Joyce A. Pareigis of Franklin; two grandchildren, Olivia and Jules Kramer and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be conducted 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 in the Our Lady of Consolation Roman Catholic Church in Nemacolin, with Father John M. Bauer as celebrant. Interment of his cremains will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, Pa. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, Richard Urda, Jr., Mark Urda, Andrew Urda, Larry Pareigis, Charles Pareigis, Jim Pareigis and Doug Jenkins.
