Mike Koast, Jr., 74 of Waynesburg, Pa. and formerly of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 11:25 P.M. on Friday, October 3, 2008 at Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg after a lengthy illness. He was born July 23, 1934 in Bobtown, Pa., a son of the late Michael and Mary (Shefcheck) Koast. Mr. Koast resided in Greene County most of his life and enjoyed farming, gardening and the outdoors. In his early working life, he drove school bus for the Baily Garage in Carmichaels for the Carmichaels Area School District. Mr. Koast had worked at Brockway Glass in Washington, Pa. and later worked as a custodian for the Trinity School District in Washington. He was a member of the Sycamore Baptist Church and served as a deacon at Bethlehem Baptist Church at Ruff Creek. Mr. Koast was a good family man and cherished spending time with his children at Camp Carmel. On August 19, 1967, he married Dorothy A. Hill, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Jerry M. Koast of San Diego, Cal.; two daughters, Esther Hardman and her husband, the Rev. Glen Hardman of Eden, N. Y. and Ruth V. Koast at home; a grandson, Thomas Hardman; a brother, Joseph Koast of Smock, Pa.; two sisters, Ustina Kukol of Bothell, Wash. and Mary Holland of Pittsburgh, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are four brothers, Nicholas Koast, who died in infancy and George, Paul and John Koast and two sisters, Helen Lawrence and Josephine Koast. Family and friends are welcome from 5 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Sugar Grove Baptist Church, four miles south of Carmichaels on Route 88. Pastors Frank Vucic and Larry Douglas will officiate. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown, Pa.
