George Billetz, Sr.

October 17, 1923 — November 10, 2008

George Billetz, Sr., 85 of Plano, Texas and formerly of Greensboro, Pa., died on Monday, November 10, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano. He was born on October 17, 1923 in Poland Mines, Greene County, Pa., a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Reagan) Billetz. Mr. Billetz was a 1943 graduate of Mapletown High School in the Southeastern Greene School District. He served with the U. S. Navy on the USS Oahu in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Billetz retired as a maintenance foreman on May 1, 1984 from Duquesne Light Company Warwick Mine in Greensboro where he had worked for 40 years. Mr. Billetz served on the Board of Education for 30 years in the Southeastern Greene School District as well as additional service on the Greene Country Vocational Technical Board and the Intermediate Unit 1 Board in California, Pa. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 58 in Uniontown, Pa. and also the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6303 in Greensboro. Mr. Billetz enjoyed fishing, Notre Dame football, gardening and most recently, became proficient as a Wii bowler. On June 18, 1949, he married Martha Gulan, who survives. The couple happily celebrated their 59 years of marriage this summer at a small gathering with their family and friends. Also surviving are a son, Rick Billetz of The Colony, Texas and his wife, Nancy and their daughter Mia; a son, George Billetz, Jr. and his wife Melody and their children, Gerrard Billetz and wife, Alicija and Marissa Billetz, all of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Andy Billetz of Parlin, N. J.; two sisters, Alice Novak of Greensboro and Veronica Billetz of Detroit, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Liz (Gulan) Messich of Parma, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, Joseph Billetz, John Billetz and Steve Billetz and five sisters, Mary Babyak, Julia Mikelinich, Anna Papuga, Catherine Wishinski and Susan Billetz. Family and friends are welcome from 7 to 9 P.M. on Saturday and Noon to 3 and 6 to 8 P. M. on Sunday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. A blessing service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Monday, November 17, 2008 in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 A.M. at the Holy Family Worship Site of the St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish in Greensboro with the Rev. Lawrence V. Holpp as celebrant. Entombment will follow at the mausoleum at Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, Pa. Full military honors will be accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 3491 and 6303. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 P.M. on Sunday in the funeral home. The family has requested that Masses be offered.
