Donald R. Atcheson

Donald R. Atcheson, 86 of Waynesburg, Pa. formerly of Nemacolin, Pa. and Washington, Pa., died at 11:10 A.M. on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg following a lengthy illness. He was born May 10, 1922 in Nemacolin, Pa., a son of the late Curtis David and Freda Laverne (Cole) Atcheson. Mr. Atcheson served as a drill Instructor in the U. S. Army during World War II. Upon his return to the area, he worked as a coal miner for the Consolidation Coal Company. He was a member of the American Legion Post 330, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793 and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 461 all of Waynesburg. Mr. Atcheson was also a member of Valley Lodge No. 459, F. & A. M. in Masontown, Pa. He enjoyed playing cards, telling jokes and had a passion for dancing. His wife, Myrtle Biddle Atcheson died on April 12, 1991. Surviving are three step sons, John T. Iams, Sr. and his wife Margy of Barnesville, Ohio, Paul L. Iams and his wife Claudia of Jefferson, Pa. and Bill B. Iams and his wife Deborah of Waynesburg, Pa; a step daughter Joan J. Antion of Columbia, S. C.; ten step grandchildren and several step great and great great grandchildren; two sisters, Viola M. Yakim of Greensburg, Pa. and Dolores J. Nieman of Cleveland, Ohio. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are two brothers, William Atcheson and Ira Atcheson. Family and friends are welcomed from 11:00 to 12:45 P.M. Friday, November 28, 2008 in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday with the Rev. Harold O. Kelley officiating. A Masonic service will be held Friday at 12:45 P. M. in the funeral home. Private interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park. Military rites will be accorded at the funeral home by the Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 both of Carmichaels.
