Andrew J. Gresh, 78 of Greensboro, Pa. died Tuesday, December 2, 2008 peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 27, 1930 in Greensboro, a son of the late John and Ann (Teresick) Gresh. Mr. Gresh was a 1948 graduate of Mapletown High School, where he was a outstanding athlete in football, baseball and basketball. He held several school records during his high school career. He went on to play football for Waynesburg College for a year until being injured. After his injury he went to work for Duquesne Light, Warwick Mine in Greensboro, retiring in 1993 after 43 years with the company. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving as a Machinist Mate 1st Class aboard the USS Mount Katmai during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Gresh was a member of the Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 both of Carmichaels, Pa. and the United Mine Workers of America Local 6310. Mr. Gresh was a Scout Leader for the local Boy Scouts of America troop for several years and enjoyed doing small engine repairs. He loved gardening, taking care of his many fruit trees, telling jokes and cherished life to its fullest. Mr. Gresh was a devote Roman Catholic and a life long member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Greensboro. On February 22, 1954, he married Anna Grace Korintus who survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Michael A. Gresh and his wife Debbie of Greensboro and John J. Gresh of McClellandtown, Pa.; five grandchildren, Melissa Han and her husband, Michael of Ypsilanti, Mich., Michelle Dunker and her husband, Jarrod of Marianna, Pa., Adam Gresh, Nicholas Gresh and Maria Gresh all of McClellandtown; three great grandchildren, Kaden, Mylee and Leah; two step grandchildren, Brad Zoldak and Allen Zoldak and his wife, Whitney and two sisters Lois Ann and Veronica. Deceased in addition to his parents is a brother Steve Gresh. Family and friends are welcomed from 6 to 8 P.M. on Thursday and 1 to 3 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. on Friday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where a Blessing Service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Saturday, December 6, 2008 followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 A.M. in the Holy Family Worship Site of the St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish, Greensboro with the Rev. Lawrence V. Holpp as celebrant. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Greensboro. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491. A Vigil service will be held at 7:30 P.M. on Friday in the funeral home.
