Ben H. Shipe, 93 of Carmichaels, Pa., went to be with the Lord peacefully at 6:45 P.M. on Sunday, January 4, 2009 in his home. He was born December 29, 1915 in The Plains, Fauquier County , Va., a son of the late Benjamin Hampton and Virgie Golda (Pearson) Shipe. Mr. Shipe was a 1932 graduate of Brownsville High School and received his bachelors degree in accounting from the University of Pittsburgh. He resided in Carmichaels since 1960 where he was a member and Elder at the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church (P. C. A.). For his longtime service as treasurer for the Church, he was bestowed the honor of Treasurer Emeritus. Mr. Shipe retired as an accountant for the Lykes Corporation Nemacolin Mine. Shortly after retirement, he began working as a trust officer for the Gallatin National Bank, retiring again in 1993. Mr. Shipe enjoyed reading and studying the Holy Bible and working with electronics and computers. His wife, Anna B. (O'Brien) Shipe died on June 24, 1998. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy J. Shipe of Carmichaels; three grandsons, J. Brian, A. Benjamin and Tyler D.; a great grandson, Lucas A.; a sister, Mary Winifred Shipe of Uniontown, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, James Elwood Shipe and a sister, Rita Bierbauer. Family and friends are welcome from 4 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, 104 East Greene Street, Carmichaels, Pa. The Rev. P. Keith Larson and the Rev. Harold O. Kelley will officiate. Entombment will follow at the mausoleum at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Board of Deacons, Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 363, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
