Stephen A. Zvonkovich

Stephen A. Zvonkovich, 62 of Alexandria, Va. and formerly of Greensboro, Pa., died unexpectedly at 3:50 P.M. on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Va. He was born June 13, 1946 in Uniontown, Pa., a son of Dorothy (Yanosh) Zvonkovich of Greensboro and the late Stephen A. Zvonkovich. Mr. Zvonkovich was a 1964 graduate of Mapletown High School and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He resided in Alexandria since 1977 where he was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Mr. Zvonkovich owned and operated Best Smokes in two locations in Alexandria. He enjoyed playing golf and made several annual golfing trips to Europe including Norway, Spain, Portugal and Ireland. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. Surviving are his loving wife of 28 years, Linda S. Zvonkovich; a son, Stephen Eric Zvonkovich along with Meghan Ryan and their daughter, Sydney of Arlington; two daughters, Cristine Zvonkovich Fargo and her husband, Tim and their son, Justin of Laurel, Md. and Stephenie Zvonkovich, also of Alexandria; three brothers, Charles J. Zvonkovich and his wife, Fran of Canonsburg, Pa., Jerome J. Zvonkovich and his wife, Lisa of Apollo, Pa. and James Aaron Zvonkovich of Greensboro; two sisters, Dianne Zvonkovich of Ebensburg, Pa. and Marian "Mimi" Franks and her husband, Andrew of Waynesburg, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. on Friday, April 3, 2009 and again from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mt. Vernon Highway, Alexandria. The graveside committal will take place at 11:00 A. M. on Monday, April 6, 2009 at St. Thomas Cemetery in Footedale, Pa. with the Rev. Lawrence V. Holpp officiating.
