Nelson Kerr Gideon, 68 of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 5:30 P.M. on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Donnell House, Washington, Pa. after a lengthy illness. He was born November 3, 1940 in Carmichaels, the son of the late George and Amy Juanita (Kerr) Gideon, Jr. Nelson was a 1958 graduate of Cumberland Township High School in Carmichaels and resided in Carmichaels most of his life. He served with the U. S. Navy and attended St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church of Carmichaels. Nelson was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed attending and participating in car shows and listening to "oldies". He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association of America, a member of the Sinnemahoning Sportmen's Club, the Laurel Valley Corvette Club and the National Corvette Museum. Nelson was also a member for the past 65 years of Camp Carmichaels, Inc. located in Cameron County, Pa., a charter member of the Muddy Creek Stock Club of Carmichaels, a member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400 of Carmichaels, the Carmichaels Area Chamber of Commerce and the Greene Academy of Art. He owned and operated Gideon's "300" Interior Decorations since 1966. On October 7, 1977, he married Marianne E. Prodan, who survives. In memory of Nelson's great great grandfather who fought in the Civil War, the couple traveled many times to Gettysburg, Pa. where they enjoyed dressing in authentic Civil War attire and observing the many battlefield enactments. Also surviving are a daughter, Lesli E. Prado and her husband, Ernesto of Livermore, Cal.; three granddaughters, Jacenia, Alicia and Gabriela Prado; two sisters, Nancy Reynolds and her husband, Pete and Carole Gideon, all of Carmichaels; a niece, Amy Sharp; two nephews, Mark Reynolds and Danny Moran; three great nieces and two great nephews. Family and friends are welcome from 7 to 9 P.M. on Monday and 5 to 9 P.M. on Tuesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where a blessing service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009. The Rev. John M. Bauer will officiate. Cumberland American Legion Post 400 will accord military honors at the funeral home immediately following the blessing service.
