Lawrence Hobo Udovich

Lawrence "Hobo" Udovich, 63 of Crucible, Pa., died at 12:35 P.M. on Monday, May 25, 2009 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W. Va. after a brief illness. He was born February 7, 1946 in Crucible, a son of the late John and Lena (Pakish) Udovich. Hobo was a 1964 graduate of Cumberland Township High School and resided in Crucible all of his life where he was a member of the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He began working for the U. S. Steel Corporation's Robena Mine in 1966 and retired from the Consolidated Coal Company Robena Preparation Plant at Alicia, Pa. Hobo was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Robena Local 1980. He enjoyed classic cars, visiting the horse race track with his buddy, Don Albani, and his nightly gatherings at "Polish Park" (the residence of Stanley and Leona Block) in Crucible. Hobo cherished his family especially his granddaughter, Adison. On March 5, 1971, he married Sharon R. Phillips, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Michael A. Udovich and his wife, Joey of Rices Landing, Pa.; a granddaughter, Adison Marie Udovich; a brother, Leonard Udovich of Nemacolin, Pa.; two sisters, Louise Weaver and Leona Block and her husband, Stanley, all of Crucible and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, John L. Udovich and a brother, John Leon Udovich. Family and friends are welcome from 7 to 9 P. M. on Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Thursday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. A blessing service will be held at 11:30 A. M. on Friday, May 29, 2009 in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 12:00 Noon at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Crucible with the Rev. John M. Bauer as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Crucible. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday in the funeral home.
