Joyce Shirley Hillsman

Joyce Shirley Hillsman, 76 of Carmichaels, Pa. (Stringtown) formerly of Crucible, Pa. died at 11:25 P.M. on August 3, 2009 in her home surrounded by her family following a long battle with cancer. She was born November 8, 1932 in Medesto, Calif., a daughter of the late Alfred D. and Doris Ann (Wood) Drum. Mrs. Hillsman was a resident of Crucible since 1965 having moved to Stringtown in 2004. She retired as a cook at the Curry Memorial Home in Waynesburg, Pa. in 1979. Mrs. Hillsman then operated a daycare center in her home in Crucible from 1992 until 2004. She enjoyed cooking, baking and listening to country music. Her family was the light of her life. On December 3, 1961, she married Michael Charles Hillsman who died August 30, 1991. Surviving is a son William Daniel Davis and his wife Kathy of Crucible; six daughters, Luella Carpenter and her husband, Bruce of Clarksvile, Pa., Patricia Hopton and her husband, Ronald of Carmichaels, Belinda Pyles and her husband, Edward of Carmichaels, Myrtle Sine and her husband, Edward of Wadestown, W.Va., Michele Davis and her husband, Charles of Carmichaels (Stringtown) and Dolores Sapic of Crucible; twenty-two grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; a sister, Levonne Webber and a brother, Russell Drum and his wife Maxine, both of Chico, Calif. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are three sisters, Beverly Riley, Thelma Sturgist and Joanne Dutcher and a son and sister who died in infancy. Also deceased are a granddaughter Hilary Dawn Sine and a son-in-law Don Sapic. Family and friends are welcomed from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, August 6, 2009 in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where services will be held Thursday at 8:00 P.M. with Pastor R. Scott Teets officiating. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Albert Gallatin Hospice, 20 Highland Park Dr., Suite 203, Uniontown, Pa. 15401.
