Edward George "Ed" Weido, formally of Nemacolin Pa. passed away at 11:35 PM on December 21, 2008 at the Thompson House in Rhinebeck, N.Y. Edward and his wife Betty (Zeigler) Weido moved to Stanfordville, N.Y. 3 ½ years ago to live near their two sons and daughter in law, Jan Weido of Stanfordville N.Y., his wife Nancy Clancy and Jerry Weido of Somerset, N.J. Edward was born in Nemacolin Pa. on April 24, 1926. He was the son of Mary and John Weido of Nemacolin. He graduated from Carmichaels High School, worked at the Buckeye Coal Company and served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He married Betty Ziegler on Feb. 12, 1949. He and Betty started the Keystone Refacing Company a blackboard refinishing company and he worked in the mine at Nemacolin until his retirement. They raised two sons. He was preceded in death by his brother Steve, his parents, Mary and John Weido, his brother Emery Weido, his sister Margaret "Margie" Weido and his brother William "Willie" Weido. Edward is survived by his wife Betty, his two sons Jerry Weido and Jan Weido, daughter-in-law Nancy Clancy, three nieces, Sandy Smith of Fredericksburg, Va., Margaret Frey of Annapolis Md. and Jeanette Rinehart of Sand Point, Idaho. He also has three great granddaughters, Crystal, Melissa and Meghan Clancy of Stanfordville, N.Y. Edward was an avid hunter, trapper and fly fisherman. He was also a scoutmaster of a Nemacolin troop. His many hobbies included building bluebird boxes, flying model planes, boat building and reading. Edward was an inventive fly tier, developing new fly patterns and reviving some old standbys like the Bread Crust. He was a generous teacher of fly tying and fly fishing to many in the area. Edward was a member of Trout Unlimited, the Isaac Walton League and the United Mine Workers of America. Edward donated his body to The Albany Medical College for medical research and physician training. His ashes have been returned to the family and will be buried in the family plot during a private ceremony at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Crucible, Pa. on October 3, 2009.
