Mary E. Hartley

Mary E. Hartley, 85 of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 6:10 P.M. on Thursday, November 5, 2009 in her home. She was born April 27, 1924 in Inglesmith, Pa., a daughter of the late James Oscar and Lula (Robison) Barnes. Mrs. Hartley was a graduate of Everett (Pa.) High School and in later life, attended California University of Pennsylvania. She served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, choir member and bible class instructor for the First Christian Church of Carmichaels. Mrs. Hartley taught art and home economics at the Youth Development Center in Waynesburg, Pa. until 1969. She and her son, the late Howard Hartley, owned and operated Flowers by Howard in Carmichaels from 1969 until 2003. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are a daughter, Marlene DeFrank and her husband, Ted of Rices Landing, Pa.; two grandchildren, Candace Klimek and her husband, Scott and David DeFrank and his wife, Christina; two great grandchildren, Austin and Paige DeFrank; a sister, Alverta Hall and her husband, Earl of San Diego, Cal.; a daughter-in-law, Jeanne M. Hartley and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are her husband, Hartford D. "Hottsey" Hartley; a son, Howard D. Hartley and a sister, Vada Morris. Family and friends are welcome from Noon to 3 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Sunday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, November 9, 2009. Rev. Reagan L. Fike and Pastor R. Scott Teets will officiate. Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the First Christian Church, P. O. Box 193, Carmichaels, PA 15320 or to the Albert Gallatin Hospice, 20 Highland Park Dr., Suite 203, Uniontown, PA 15401.
