Nick Levo, 88 of Waynesburg, Pa. and formerly of Greensboro, Pa., died at 3:30 A.M. on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg. He was born July 13, 1921 in Arnold, Pa., a son of the late Nicholas and Anna (Dompe) Levo, Sr. Mr. Levo attended school in Russellton, Pa. and graduated from Springdale High School in 1939. He served with the U. S. Army during World War II in Northern France and Central Europe with Company B of the 283rd Engineers Battalion. After the War, Mr. Levo received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1955 and subsequently earned the title of Professional Engineer. He retired as superintendent of the Duquesne Light Warwick Mine in Greensboro in 1986. Mr. Levo was a member and usher at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Greensboro, a past commander, chaplain and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6303, Greensboro, a life member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400 of Carmichaels and a life member of the Bobtown Polish Club. In addition, he served with the Carmichaels Honor Guard for many years, was a member of the Italo-American Citizens Club of Masontown, served as a member of the advisory counsel of the Area Agency on Aging for Southwestern Pennsylvania, served as a member of the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Coal Minng Institute of America and served with the Greene County Planning Commission. Mr. Levo was instrumental in developing Mon-View Park in Greensboro with the Duquesne Light Company. On October 28, 1946, he married Minnie Trofnoff, who died February 29, 1992. Surviving are two sons, Bob Levo and his wife, Mary of Waynesburg, Pa. and James Levo and his wife, Cindy of Carmichaels, Pa.; a daughter, Anita Capristo and her husband, Jay of Titusville, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Angela Lohr, Nicholas Levo, III, Drake Levo, Amanda Noble, Teresa Capristo, Gina Capristo, Lisa Hoyle, Heidi Edge and Jessica Levo; four great grandchildren; a half brother, Carmen Levo of Jacksonville, Fla.; a half sister, Mary Ann Lewis of Jacksonville and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a son, George Levo and a grandson, Angelo Capristo. Family and friends are welcome from 7 to 9 P.M. on Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Tuesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. A blessing service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 A.M. at the Holy Family Worship Site of the St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish, Greensboro with the Rev. Lawrence V. Holpp as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park. A vigil service will be held at 8:30 P.M. on Monday in the funeral home. Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 3491 and 6303 will accord military honors at the cemetery mausoleum. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the building fund of the Cumberland American Legion Post 400, 205 East George Street, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
