Charles E. Stockdale

Charles E. Stockdale, 89 of Monroeville, Pa., formerly of West Newton, Pa. died Monday, February 8, 2010 in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville following a brief illness. He was born December 19, 1920 in Carmichaels, Pa. a son of the late D. M. and Lucy (Snider) Stockdale. Mr. Stockdale was a graduate of Cumberland Township High School. He was a veteran of WW II having served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Corp. Mr. Stockdale's love of flying lead him to become a flight instructor. He later worked as an accident investigator for the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement in 1988. Mr. Stockdale was a member of the Blyth Lodge #593, F. & A.M., West Newton, Pa. He loved to spend time snow skiing. Mr. Stockdale was a member of the West Newton Presbyterian Church. In January 1953 he married Betty (Biddle) Stockdale who survives. Also surviving are three sons; Gary Stockdale of Birmingham, Ala., Chad Stockdale and his wife Debbie of Economy Borough, Pa., and Mark Stockdale and his wife Angela of Somerset, Pa; one daughter Judy Holzapfel and her husband Kris of Pensacola, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Stacy, Kelly, Holly, Christy, Kira, Ashlee, Brad and Lisa; five great grandchildren; one brother, William C. Stockdale of Westerville, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are three brothers, James Stockdale, who died in infancy, Fred Stockdale and Robert Stockdale and two sisters, Helen Baily Draper and Ruby S. Gideon. Family and friends are welcomed from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 12, 2010 with the Rev. Harold O. Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, Pa. Military Graveside Rites will be accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491, both of Carmichaels, Pa.
