Edward R. Boord

Edward R. Boord, 79 of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 29, 2010 in his home. He was born January 21, 1931 in Mapletown, Greene County, a son of the late James Russell and Helen Gladys (Mundell) Boord. Mr. Boord served with the U. S. Army in the Korean Conflict. He was a partner with Bridge Inspection Service and ABCO Industrial Painting, both of Chester, W. Va. Mr. Boord also worked for the George Tarbuk Company in Midland, Pa. where he participated in the work on the Bridge of the Americas in Panama. He served as a deacon, trustee chairman and assistant Sunday school superintendent at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Boord was a member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 and was a longtime member of the Carmichaels Lions Club where he was honored as 1998 - 1999 Lion of the Year. In addition, he served as assistant steward and in other offices of the Carmichaels Grange No. 1389 and was honored as Granger of the Year in 1996. Mr. Boord served as master of Greene County Pomona Grange and was a lifetime member of the Painters Local Union No. 6. He and his wife, Evelyn enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Fun Squares of Greene County. On October 25, 1952, he married Evelyn L. Pyle, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Linda B. McAtee and her husband, John of Latrobe, Pa. and Cynthia Oram and her husband, James of Fort Myers, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jason Dziak and his wife, Amanda, Justin Dziak and Jonathan Friedman; a sister, Virginia Schiffbauer of Carmichaels and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Scott Edward Boord, a brother, Major James Albert Boord and two sisters, Betty Rose Boord, who died in infancy and Marjorie Lutes Tabor. Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 P.M. on Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Monday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Pastor Frank Vucic will officiate. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park. American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 will accord military honors at the graveside. Carmichaels Grange No. 1389 will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 P.M. on Monday in the funeral home, followed at 7:30 P.M. by a memorial service by the Carmichaels Lions Club.
