Louis R. Long, 80 of Rices Landing, Pa., died at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Aspinwall, Pa. after a lengthy illness. He was born March 3, 1930 in Cumberland Township, Greene County, Pa., a son of the late Reed Milton and Edna (Moredock) Long. Mr. Long was a 1950 graduate of Cumberland Township High School, Carmichaels and resided in Rices Landing since 1976. He served with the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Lloyd Thomas during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Republic Steel Corporation Clyde Mine, Fredericktown, Pa. in 1979. Mr. Long was a member of the Hewitt Presbyterian Church, Rices Landing and was a Past Master of Cornerstone Lodge No. 699 F & A.M, Cleveland, Ohio., a member of Provident Royal Arch Chapter No. 222, Parma Ohio and the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Cleveland. Mr. Long was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. On October 19, 1957, he married Ellen I. Dunham, who died October 9, 2007. Surviving are two daughters, Gale D. Long of Chesapeake, Va. and Melanie L. Downey, with whom he made his home in Rices Landing; a granddaughter, Ashley N. Downey of Chesapeake; a brother, Robert E. Long and his wife, Betty of Carmichaels, Pa.; two sister's-in-law, Betty J. Long of Carmichaels and Grace L. Long of Pawleys Island, S. C. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Paul Moredock Long and Wayne McClure Long and a sister, Elma Kantorick. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Friday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 12, 2010 in the funeral home with the Rev. Donald P. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park with full military honors accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491. Valley Lodge No. 459, F. and A.M. will conduct Masonic Services at 7:30 P.M. on Friday in the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hewitt Presbyterian Church, 121 Crucible Rd., Rices Landing, PA 15357.
