Robert E. Simons, Sr.

Robert E. Simons, Sr., 83 of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 10:28 A.M. on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, Pa. He was born December 31, 1926 in Fayette County, Pa., a son of the late William Harry and Bessie (Shoenberger) Simons. Mr. Simons served with the Merchant Marines during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii. He retired in 1985 from the Consolidated Coal Company Humphrey No. 7 Mine. Mr. Simons enjoyed playing golf and cherished the company of his beloved dog, Angel. On December 17, 1975, he married Beverly Byrn Davis who died in June of 2008. Surviving are two sons, William R. Simons, Sr. of Carmichaels and Robert E. Simons, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Masontown, Pa.; two daughters, Judith Rush and her husband, Bruce and Patty L. Helmick and her husband, Earl all of Carmichaels; nine grandchildren, Kevin Rush, Brian Rush, William Simons, Jr., Nicole Simons, Stephanie Housel, Patricia Helmick, Sonya Reichenbach, Jennifer Shope and Justin Simons; 18 great grandchildren; a sister, Jean McCoy of Ohio; two step sons, Joseph Davis of Palm Beach, Fla. and Charles Davis and his wife, Dot of Hoopers Island, Md.; a step daughter, Lea Spears and her husband, Vern of Cambridge, Md.; three step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are the mother of his children, Ruth (Nashwinter) Uram; two brothers, Nicholas Simons and William Simons and three sisters, Stella Wallace, Charlotte Lopotosky and Catherine Gould. There will be no public viewing and all arrangements are private and under the direction of the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370 or to the Greene County Historical Society, 918 Rolling Meadows Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
