Emil J. Policz, 85 of Jefferson, Pa., entered into eternal rest at 7:35 A. M. on Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, Pa. He was born June 3, 1925 in Mather, Pa., a son of the late George and Julia (Urbany) Policz. Mr. Policz served with the U. S. Navy during World War II in Texas where he was maintenance chief on the Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber. After the war, he worked at the Mather Colliers Mine until the mine closed in 1964. Mr. Policz then attended Williamsport Technical School where he earned a degree as a certified machinist. He worked for several machine shops and retired from Washington Automatic Machine Company on May 2, 1990. Mr. Policz was a charter member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carmichaels. He assisted in the building of the church and served on council and various committees of the church as long as his health permitted. Mr. Policz was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 6290 of Nemacolin, Pa. He was a life member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and was active with the Carmichaels Honor Guard funeral detail for many years until his recent illness. In addition, Mr. Policz was a member of the Jefferson Senior Center and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. He resided all of this life in the Mather and Jefferson area. On August 28, 1959, he married Lucille V. Scott, who survives. Also surviving are a granddaughter, Yamilet Virgin and her husband, Eddie; two great grandchildren, Carolina Benavides and Alejandro Benavides; four brothers, Andrew Policz of Waynesburg, Matthew Policz and his wife, Bertha of Carmichaels, Pa., Richard Policz and his wife, June of Waynesburg and Franklin Policz and his wife, Ronette of Rices Landing, Pa.; five sisters, Betty Haligowski of Washington, Pa., Irene Kachersky of Carmichaels, Dolores Stabella and herhusband, George of Washington, Priscilla Brown and her husband, Newt of Waynesburg and Georgianna Bogucki and her husband, Michael of Northport, Alabama and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are his step son, Robert S. Virgin; two brothers, George Policz, Jr. and Louis Policz and two sisters, Helen Orrie and Dorothy Jacobs. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Wednesday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 28 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 224 South Market Street, Carmichaels, Pa. Interment will take place at 2:30 P.M. on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, Pa. with full military honors accorded by the U. S. Navy, Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 224 South Market Street, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
