John Turian

John Turian, 93 of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 8, 2010 at the Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa. He was born September 30, 1917 in Marietta, Pa., a son of the late Peter and Anna (Menko) Turian. Mr. Turian served with the U. S. Army during World War II with Headquarters Battery, 914th Field Artillery Battalion and was a member of the St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church of Carmichaels and a former member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400 of Carmichaels. He retired as a section foreman from the Bethlehem Steel Corporation Marianna No. 58 Mine. On January 31, 1942, he married Helen Matula, who died December 15, 2009. Surviving are a son, John Turian, Jr. of Brooklyn, N. Y.; three daughters, Genevieve Johnson and her husband, Jeff of Carmichaels, Frances Pollaro of Staten Island, N. Y. and Colette Metcalf and her husband, Mark of Carmichaels; three grandchildren, Janine Skochelak and her husband, Barry of Keedysville, Md., Jeff Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Lori of Beckley, W. Va. and Curtis Johnson and his wife, Angie of Clarksville, Pa.; four great grandchildren, Tyler and Joshua Johnson and Erica and Erin Johnson; a brother, Andrew Turian of Glen Bernie, Md.; a sister, Julia Charnesky of Greensburg, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, David A. Turian; a brother, Peter Turian, who died in childhood and two sisters, Ann McIntire and Elizabeth Medved. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Thursday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Friday, November 12, 2010, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, 408 Route 88, Carmichaels with the Rev. John M. Bauer as celebrant. Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels. A vigil service will be held at 3:45 P.M. on Thursday in the funeral home.
