John L. Centrich, 88 of Masontown, Pa. and formerly of Greensboro, Pa., died at 6:35 P.M. on Monday, January 3, 2011 in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. He was born December 18, 1922 in Greensboro, a son of the late Frank and Kathryn (Marimac) Centrich. Mr. Centrich was a 1941 graduate of Mapletown High School, where he played football and was a sports announcer and editor. He served with the U. S. Army during World War II in Europe, Africa and the Middle East as a military policeman. Upon his discharge, he began working as an electrician and mechanic for Duquesne Light Warwick. Mr. Centrich was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, serving as a committeeman and later as an auditor and purchasing agent for the Washington, D. C. office. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6303 in Greensboro of which he was past secretary and treasurer and a member of the AMVETS General Marshall Post 103 of Hopwood, Pa. Mr. Centrich was Roman Catholic by faith and was a devoted husband and father. On November 26, 1949 he married Rose Mary Capra, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Diana D. Wilson and her husband, Darrell, of Tallahassee, Fla. and Cynthia Gromen and her husband, Andrew, of St. Paul, Minn.; three grandchildren, Chelsea Wilson, Matthew Gromen and Miranda Gromen; two sisters, Mary Gluvna of Fla. and Dorothy Fawn and husband, Don, of Austin, Tex. and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are a brother, Frank A. Centrich and two sisters, Ann Fiedor and Mildred Karzawa. Family and friends are welcomed from 7 to 9 P.M. on Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Friday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa., where a blessing service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Saturday, January 8, 2010, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 A.M. at the Holy Family Worship Site of the St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish, Greensboro with the Rev. Lawrence V. Holpp as celebrant. Entombment will follow at the mausoleum at Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, Pa. Military graveside rites will be accorded by AMVETS General Marshall Post No. 103. A vigil service will be held at 8:00 P.M. on Friday in the funeral home.
