Dean Sylvester Ganocy, 55 of Greensboro, Pa., died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 13, 2011 in his home. He was born November 8, 1955 in Franklin Township, Greene County, Pa., a son of the late Sylvester C. and Doris C. (Tanner) Ganocy. Mr. Ganocy resided in Mapletown all of his life and was a member of the Mapletown United Methodist Church. He was a 1973 graduate of Mapletown High School and received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from California University. Mr. Ganocy worked as a lock operator at the Point Marion Lock and Dam until his recent illness. He enjoyed gardening and yard work and was an avid sports fan. Mr. Ganocy was a member of the Greene County All Men's Softball Team and, at one time, was a karate instructor.
Surviving are a daughter, Deanna May Ganocy Greenwood of Columbiana, Ohio; a grandson, Wyatt Christopher Greenwood; two brothers, Terry K. Ganocy and his wife, Naomi, of Uniontown, Pa. and Kenneth A. Ganocy and his wife, Betty, of Carmichaels, Pa.; the mother of his daughter, Pamela Hughes of Columbiana and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are welcome from 7 to 9 P.M. on Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Thursday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, February 18, 2011. Pastor Kenneth A. Haines will officiate. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Mapletown United Methodist Church, 928 Mapletown Rd., Greensboro, PA 15338.
