Robert G. "Scopy" Wood, Jr., 57 of Waynesburg, Pa., died at 6:12 A.M. on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W. Va. after a brief illness. He was born May 30, 1953 in Franklin Township, Greene County, Pa., a son of Elaine (Hart) Wood, with whom he made his home in Waynesburg and the late Robert G. "Scopy" Wood, Sr. Mr. Wood was a 1971 graduate of Waynesburg Central High School. He worked for a short time at the Nemacolin Mine and from 1989 until his recent illness, worked at the Emerald Mine in Waynesburg. Mr. Wood was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Waynesburg and a former member of Waynesburg Lodge No. 153, F. and A. M. He undertook seeing that the Eddy Cemetery in Brave, Pa. was maintained and was an avid hunter and fisherman. At the age of 14, he won the national championship in trapshooting. Mr. Wood was a beloved father, grandfather, son and brother. Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Elaine G. Wood and Meghan L. Wood Zollars and her husband, Jeremy, all of Carmichaels; two grandchildren, Keyonna Gail Thomas and Tucker J. Zollars; a sister, Autumn J. Laskody and her husband, Randy, of Waynesburg and a niece, Carly A. Stewart. Family and friends are welcome from 5 to 7 P.M. on Saturday and 1 to 5 P.M. on Sunday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 7, 2011. Pastor Jerrad R. Peterman will officiate. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Oak View United Methodist Church, 160 Rolling Meadows Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
