Rhoda Frances Crago Brady, 89, of Anaheim, Cal. and formerly of Carmichaels, Pa., a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 in Anaheim. She was born May 28, 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of the late James T. and Anna E. Crago. Mrs. Brady was a proud alumnus of Waynesburg (College) University where she earned a degree in biology. While at Waynesburg College, she met, fell in love with and later married George Campbell Brady on August 11, 1945. The couple were married for over 50 years, until his death on May 24, 1996. While living in Carmichaels, Mrs. Brady was a member of the First Presbyterian (now the Greene Valley Presbyterian) Church in Carmichaels. During World War II, Mrs. Brady worked as a chemist for the Pittsburgh Steel Corporation. After the War, she taught high school biology until her first child was born. The family relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 1961, and in 1966, moved to Anaheim. In California, Rhoda, George and their children attended the First Presbyterian Church in Anaheim. Being involved with her church was always the highest importance to Rhoda. At her church, she served as a deaconess, was part of the Sarah Circle, delivered flowers, visited shut-ins and volunteered in the church office. One of her great joys was going to church and seeing her friends. Mrs. Brady especially enjoyed filling the church pews with her family. Her close friends and neighbors were the Presbyterian minister's children who stayed in touch with her throughout her life. Mrs. Brady also participated in many philanthropic activities throughout her life. After her family was raised, Mrs. Brady returned to teaching home-bound high school students in Norwalk, California. She prepared her students for all subjects in the curriculum. Mrs. Brady made a difference in many student's lives and received many notes from parents and students thanking her for her efforts. Although she retired at the age of 70, her students continued to send Christmas cards to her until her last year. Surviving are two sons, James Campbell Brady and his wife, Amy, of Monterey, Cal. and Mark Brady and his wife, Janet, of Truckee, Cal.; two daughters, Martha A. Allen and her husband, Fred, of Orange, Cal. and Barbara J. Brady of Point Richmond, Cal.; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.
