John J. Severini, 85 of Jefferson, Pa. and formerly of Rices Landing, Pa., died at 5:00 P.M. on Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, Pa. He was born October 18, 1925 in Crucible, Pa., a son of the late Umberto (Albert) and Lena (Citrone) Severini. Mr. Severini was a 1943 graduate of Cumberland Township High School and resided in Jefferson Township since 1979. He served in the U. S. Army in the European Theater with 311th Infantry Division from 1944 until 1945 and enlisted with the U. S. Air Force and served with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron of the First Air Force from 1945 until his discharge in 1948. Mr. Severini was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of the St. Marcellus Roman Catholic Church of Jefferson and was a past commander of the Brooks-Crago American Legion Post Post 816, Rices Landing. Mr. Severini worked as a river boat captain for J & L Steel Corporation for 38 years and then worked for the Consol River Division for five years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Master Mates and Pilots Harbor # 47, Cleveland, Ohio and served as an officer for the Rices Landing Athletic Club. Mr. Severini enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. On February 7, 1950, he married Helen M. Seese, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Michael K. Bobella and his wife, Zadiee, of Monroeville, Pa. and David J. Severini and his wife, Georgia Ann, of Carmichaels; three daughters, Nancy Lea Porter and her husband, John, of Cherryville, N. C., Diane Gay Overman and her husband, Tom, of Woodstock, Va. and Kathy Bresson and her husband, Jim, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Joel Porter, Allison Duckworth, Heidi Dulaney, Dava Severini, Robert Overman, Jessica Overman, David Vuknic, John Vuknic, Brittney Bobella and Michael Bobella; six great grandchildren, Mackenzie Porter, Mya Dulaney, Caleb Palumbo, Jace Duckworth, London Kade Vuknic and Bishop Vuknic; two brothers, Chester C. Severini and his wife, Velma, of Rices Landing, Pa. and James S. Severini and his wife, Joanne, of Mather, Pa.; a sister, Dolores Bobko and her husband, George, of Mather and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a brother, Albert Severini. In accordance with Mr. Severini's wishes, there will be no public viewing and all arrangements are private. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Rd., Waynesburg, PA 15370.
