Terry L. Mccann

Terry L. McCann, 53, of Independence, Ky. and formerly of Carmichaels, Pa., died on Friday, August 26, 2011 in Independence after a three year battle with cancer. He was born February 17, 1958 in Waynesburg, Pa., a son of Clarice L. (Fuller) McCann and the late John Thomas McCann. Mr. McCann was a 1976 graduate of Carmichaels Area High School and received a bachelors degree from Wayman Baptist University. While residing in Carmichaels, he attended the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church. In 1976, Mr. McCann enlisted into the U. S. Army and was trained as a helicopter pilot for the Cobra Gun Ship at Ft. Rucker, Ala. He served three tours of duty in Korea and one tour in Germany. During Mr. McCann's military career, he received his fixed wing pilot's license. In 1998, he retired from the Army with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer W3. After retirement, Mr. McCann worked as a pilot for Com Air. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hiking, bird watching and especially spending time with his grandchildren. On October 18, 2008, he married Carol Miller, who survives. Also surviving are a son John Lee McCann of Elsmere, Ky.; two daughters, Grace Vander Laan and her husband, Chris, and Christina McCann, all of Florence, Ky.; two grandchildren, Norah Vander Laan and Julian Vykhovanyuk; a step son, Ryan Colwell of Independence; a step daughter, Alyson Vykhovanyuk and her husband, Bogdan, of Independence; four brothers, Dennis R. McCann and his wife, Elaine, and Thomas C. McCann, all of Carmichaels, Timothy W. McCann and his wife, Susan, of Claysville, Pa. and Gregory A. McCann and his wife, Mary, of Waynesburg, Pa.; two sisters, Sioux A. Harbarger and her husband, Lane and Dawn L. Wise and her husband, Larry, all of Carmichaels; two aunts, Rose Townsend and her husband, Jim, of Rices Landing, Pa. and Myra Maslanka of Chapman, Kan.; the mother of his children, Okyon Choe McCann of Florence, Ky. and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Terry's life from 1 to 3 P.M. on Saturday, September 10, 2011 in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Pastor Frank Vucic will officiate. Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 will accord military honors at the funeral home immediately after the memorial service.
