William Kovach

William Kovach, 92 of Greensboro, Pa., died at 1:00 P. M. on Friday, September 2, 2011 in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born June 9, 1919 in Nicholson Township, Fayette County, Pa., a son of the late Louis and Helen Marie (Kreson) Kovach. Mr. Kovach was a graduate of Mapletown High School and served with the U. S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. In his early working years, he was employed by several local coal mines and then owned and operated local coal mines. Mr. Kovach also owned and operated a trucking and construction company. Later, he worked at the Duquesne Light Warwick Mine as a tipple man until his retirement in the early 1990's. While working at Duquesne Light, he worked as a State Farm Insurance agent for 41 years, retiring in 1994. Mr. Kovach served as an elder and choir member of the Greensboro Presbyterian Church and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6303 and U. M. W. A. Duquesne Light Local 6310. On September 20, 1947, he married Violet Minor, who survives. Also surviving are a son, William L. Kovach and his wife, Elizabeth, of Greensboro; a daughter, Janice K. Flynn and her husband, Thomas, of Greensboro; three grandsons, Tom Flynn, Jr. and his wife, Stacey, Joel Kovach and Ethan Kovach; two great grandchildren, Brandi and Ian Flynn; a brother, Andrew Kovach of Greensboro; two sisters, Ethel Mikita of Tampa, Fla. and Margaret Tencer and her husband, Albert, of Morgantown, W. Va.; two sisters-in-law, Marie Kovach of Greensboro and Norma Kovach of Akron, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, Steve Kovach, Charles Kovach and Louis Kovach, Jr.; three sisters, Mary Helen Kovach, who died in infancy, Helen M. Enoff and Pearl E. Kayla; three brothers-in-law, George Mikita, Dick Enoff and Alex Kayla and two sisters-in-law, Pauline Kovach and Helen Kovach. Family and friends are welcome from 3 to 8 P.M. on Sunday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Monday, September 5, 2011. The Rev. Dr. Robert M. Randolph will officiate. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown, Pa. Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 3491 and 6303 will accord military honors at the graveside. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Greensboro Presbyterian Church, c/o Thomas J. Flynn, 1733 S. Eighty Eight Rd., Greensboro, PA 15338.
