Ruth E. Smith

Ruth E. Smith of Peoria, Ariz. and formerly of Carmichaels, Pa., died on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Emeritus at Peoria. She was born a daughter of Albert and Bessie (Dumbauld) Hoch. Mrs. Smith worked as a tax accountant in Carmichaels for many years and was always active in civic affairs in her community. She was a former member of the Carmichaels Area Chamber of Commerce and had been supportive to the Girl Scouts of America. On June 17, 1947, she married Donald Leo Smith, who died January 30, 2009. For many years, she volunteered with her husband, Donald, to work numerous fund raisers at the Carmichaels and Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Company. Surviving are a son, Randy Von Smith and his wife, Beverly, of Hancock, Maine; a daughter, Denise R. Kauffman and her husband, Scott, of Chino Valley, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Aubrey Adam Smith of Maine and Randi Renee Bustamante and her husband, Toribio of Surprise, Ariz.; two great grandchildren, Julia Renee Bustamante and Toribio Leo Bustamante; a step granddaughter, Melody Smith of the State of New York and a sister, Charlotte Fucson of San Antonio, Tex. Deceased are three brothers, Carl Hoch, Donald Hoch and Kenneth Hoch and six sisters, Alma McNatt, Dolly Hess, Jennie Mae Reinhard, Judith Smith, Katherine Urbach and Louise Payne. Family and friends are welcome to attend the committal service at 11:00 A. M. on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the mausoleum chapel at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, 603 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pa. The Rev. Harold O. Kelley will officiate. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 1100 Liberty Avenue, Suite E-201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
