Helen Marie O'Brochta Kurtyka

February 25, 1922 — September 28, 2011

Helen Marie (O'Brochta) Kurtyka, 89 of Frey Village, Middletown, Pa. and formerly of Dry Tavern, Greene County, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 in Frey Village. She was born on February 25, 1922, in Century, W. Va., a daughter of the late Albert and Catherine O'Brochta. Mrs. Kurtyka was a member of Seven Sorrows Catholic Church of Middletown and Sacred Heart Church of Rices Landing, Pa. A lifetime homemaker, her joy was her home, friends and beautiful gifts of nature. On February 22, 1941, she married Martin J. Kurtyka, who died August 6, 2001 after 60 years of marriage. Her greatest love was her eight children, Marty Kurtyka and his wife, Jeanine, of Hagerstown, Md., Catherine Voithofer and her husband, Casper, of Middletown, Pa., Gloria Murphy and her husband, Jack, of Palm Coast, Fla., James Kurtyka and his wife, Linda, of Willow Springs, Ill., Ronald Kurtyka of Dry Tavern, Pa., Shirley Litzinger and her husband, Ronald, of Boyers, Pa., Gregory Kurtyka and his wife, Carol, of Rices Landing, Pa. and Jeffrey Kurtyka and his wife, Lizabeth, of Harrisburg, Pa.; 21 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two brothers Thomas O'Brochta of Minnesota (formerly of Jefferson, Pa.) and Anthony O'Brochta and his wife, Rosemarie, of Mentor, Ohio and a sister, Lucy Rumancik and her husband, John, of Albuquerque, N. M. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great grandson, Avery Snyder; seven brothers John, Frank, Peter, Paul, Andrew, Joseph and William O'Brochta; two sisters, Rose O'Brochta and Julia Stassa and a son-in-law Jack Miller (deceased spouse of Shirley). Family and friends are welcome from Noon to 3 and 6 to 8 P.M. on Sunday, October 2, 2011 in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa., where a blessing service will be held at 10:15 A. M. on Monday, October 3, 2011, followed at 11:00 A. M. by a Mass of the Resurrection at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Rices Landing, Pa. with the Rev. John M. Bauer as celebrant. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery, Rices Landing, Pa. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Consolation, 408 Route 88, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
