Betty June Long, 81 of Carmichaels, Pa. died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 12:31 p.m. in Southwest Regional Medical Center. She was born June 27, 1930 in Wyano, Pa. a daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Leggin) Markulik. Mrs. Long was a 1948 graduate of Cumberland Township High School and resided in Cumberland Township most of her life. She was a member of the St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the St. Hugh Altar Rosary Society, currently serving as secretary, the Catholic Daughters of America, having held several offices in the Greene County Court and Past Regents Club of Pittsburgh, Pa. Mrs. Long was also a member of the Cumberland American Legion Post 400 Women’s Auxiliary, Carmichaels Women’s Civic Club and the former Carmichaels Democrat Women’s Club. She also served as a Greene County Democratic Committee Person and on the Queens Committee for The King Coal Association. Mrs. Long enjoyed bowling with the Green Hills Bowling League, bingo and bus trips to the casinos. She also served as a former Den Mother for the local Cub Scout Pack. On August 4, 1951 she married Wayne M. Long, who died March 26, 2003. Surviving is one daughter Patti J. Fancher and her husband, Toby of Waynesburg; two sons, Michael R. Long and his wife, Herbie of Carmichaels and Marc L. Long and his wife, Kelly of Gaithersburg, Md.; eight grandchildren, Ibra S. ”Drew” Fancher, IV, Sean Michael Fancher, Reed Douglas Long, Drake Michael Long, Erin MacKenzie Long, Michael Wayne Long, Maegan Elizabeth Long and Brendan Marc Long; two brothers, Melvin F. Markulik and his wife, Barbara of Aurora, Col. and H. James Markulik and his wife, Clara of Carmichaels; sisters-in-law Mary Markulik of Washington, Pa. and Dolores Markulik of Carmichaels and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert E. and Betty Long of Carmichaels. Deceased in addition to her husband is a son Col. Gary Long, a daughter, Sonja Long, who died in infancy and three brothers, Michael “Jack” Markulik, William Charles Markulik and Bernard A. Markulik. Family and friends are welcomed from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where a blessing service will be held Friday, November 18, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. in St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels with the Rev. John M. Bauer as celebrant. Interment will be held at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.
