Douglas S. Miller, 75, of Garards Fort, Pa., died at 7:00 A. M. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at his home. He was born April 13, 1936 in Greensboro, Pa., a son of the late William S. and Mary Z. (Minor) Miller. Mr. Miller was a 1954 graduate of Mapletown High School and attended the West Virginia University. He served with the U. S. Army and Army Reserve from 1957 until 1963 and resided most of his life in the Greensboro area. He first worked for the Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, Ohio before relocating to the Baltimore, Md. area to work as an installer and repairman for Bell Atlantic. Mr. Miller then returned to Pennsylvania to work for Bell Atlantic in Washington, Pa. and lastly in Uniontown, Pa. He retired from Verizon Communications in Uniontown in 1996. Mr. Miller enjoyed auto racing and admired and collected antique cars. On July 28, 1962, he married Joy Lynne Moats, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Douglas S. Miller, Jr. and his wife, Nellie, of Carlisle, Pa.; a daughter, Susan M. Moreland and her husband, Larry, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three grandchildren, Melissa Moreland, Amanda Moreland and Megan Moreland; a step granddaughter, Kyleen Woodward; a sister, Mary Lou Everly and her husband, Sherdel, of Garards Fort and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, Jack Miller, Robert L. Miller and Alvin Miller. At Mr. Miller's request, there will be no public viewing and a memorial service will be announced at a later time.
