Henry W. Theis, Jr, 82, of Dilliner, Pa., died peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at his daughter's residence in Wind Gap, Pa. He was born January 16, 1929 in Brooklyn, N. Y., a son of the late Henry William and Edna Cornelia (Hull) Theis. Mr. Theis was a graduate of Bergenfield High School, Bergenfield, N. J. where he played violin and was selected to be first chair violin for the New Jersey Orchestra. Mr. Theis also enjoyed playing the piano. He received his masters degree in chemistry from Adelphia University, Long Island, N. Y. and earned a doctorate of pharmacy from Rutgers University. During the Korean Conflict, Mr. Theis served with the U. S. Air Force. Afterward, he worked as a grant reviewer for the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services and was responsible for reviewing the grant that was awarded for the first emergency medical services unit in New Jersey. Later, Mr. Theis worked as a supervising pharmacist for the New Jersey State Prison at Newark where he developed the online pharmacy for the entire New Jersey prison system. Upon his retirement in 1994, he and his wife relocated to Dilliner, Pa. Mr. Theis was a member of the Sugar Grove Baptist Church of Greensboro, Pa., Carmichaels Grange No. 1389, Greene County Pomona Grange and the Pennsylvania State Grange. In addition, he was a member of Uniontown Chapter 263, O. E. S. and Valley Lodge No. 459, F. & A. M., Masontown, Pa. On July 16, 1977, he married Sandra J. Gribble, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Lisa Jacob of Wind Gap; two step daughters, Denice Davis of Angier, N. C. and Diane Rue of Harpers Ferry, W. Va.; four grandchildren, Ariel Jacob, Shannon Jacob, Eric Jacob and Hope Beleno and several nephews. Deceased is a sister, Connie Theis. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of his life from 2 to 3 P. M. on Saturday April 21, 2012 in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. At 3:00 P. M., memorial services will begin by Carmichaels Grange No. 1389, Uniontown Chapter 263, O. E. S., Valley Lodge No. 459, F. & A. M. and by Pastors Frank Vucic and Daniel Hennessey. Military honors will follow by Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Luke's Hospice, 1510 Valley Center Parkway, Suite 200, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
