John R. "Jiggs" Temple, 83, of West Middletown, Pa., died unexpectedly Friday morning, March 30, 2012 at his home. He was born June 2, 1928 in Washington, Pa., a son of the late Paul Ross and Janet Mary (Miller) Temple. Mr. Temple resided in West Middletown since 1953 where he was a member of the Grove United Presbyterian Church since 1940. At the church, he was a member of the men's Sunday school class and served as both a trustee and an elder. He worked at Weirton Steel Corporation for 38 years retiring on March 31, 1989. Mr. Temple was a U. S. Army veteran and was a charter member of the West Middletown Community Volunteer Fire Department where he served as fire chief for about 20 years and where he was presently an honorary member. He served several terms as mayor of the Borough of West Middletown. In addition, Mr. Temple was a member of Avella Athletics, Inc., Weirton Steel Independent Union and the McKeever Study Group. On April 19, 1952, he married Marjorie J. Bednarski, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Jonathan R. "Pete" Temple and his wife, Susan, Mark R. Temple, Paul M. Temple and his wife, Jackie, and Eric D. Temple, all of West Middletown; six grandchildren, Jenna, Amanda, Jonathan, Benjamin, Alex and Jake Temple and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are private and interment will take place at West Middletown Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Grove United Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 88, West Middletown, PA 15379.
