E. Lee Kline

E. Lee Kline, 79, of Carmichaels, Pa., died unexpectedly Friday evening, March 30, 2012 in his home. He was born January 18, 1933 in Rices Landing, Pa., a son of the late Brian Evans and Gertrude (Dayton) Kline. Mr. Kline received his bachelor and master of science degrees in electrical engineering from West Virginia University. During the Korean Conflict, he served as an aircraft performance engineering officer with the rank of lieutenant with the U. S. Air Force. From 1963 until 1988, he worked at the Naval Research Laboratory where his principal work included airborne navigation systems, secure voice terminal design and secure communications and information systems. From 1988 until 1989, he worked as a consultant with the Atlantic Systems Research and Engineering Corporation. Later he worked with Kaman Sciences Corporation as a senior engineer. Mr. Kline was the U. S. representative to the NATO Special Working Group on narrowband secure voice systems, which resulted in the standardization of a secure voice terminal for use in NATO communication systems. He was the recipient of the U. S. Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award and was a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Mr. Kline was inducted into the Honorary Academy of Electrical and Computer Engineering at West Virginia University on May 7, 1994. On August 25, 1962, he married JoAnn Baily who survives. The couple would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary this year. Mr. Kline was a very active member, elder and trustee of the Burke Community Church, Burke, Va. Upon returning to Carmichaels in 1995, he continued to serve the Lord as an elder at the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, P. C. A. Mr. Kline was a Past Master of Springfield Lodge No. 217, A. F. & A. M., Springfield, Va., a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Alexandria, Va. and the Kena Shrine, A.A.O.N.M.S., Fairfax, Va. Surviving in addition to his wife, JoAnn, are two daughters, Tracie Kline Stofko and her husband, Shawn, of Churchville, Md. and Kristen Kline Eakins and her husband, Brad, of Culpeper, Va. and three grandchildren, Taylor Lee Stofko, Kyle Baily Stofko and Ryan Jeffery Eakins. Family and friends are welcome from 4 to 9 P.M. on Monday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, 104 E. Greene St., Carmichaels, Pa. with the Rev. P. Keith Larson officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels with a military committal by Cumberland American Legion Post 400. Valley Lodge No. 459, F. & A. M. will conduct Masonic Services at 7:30 P.M. on Monday in the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the memorial fund of the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 363, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
