Margaret Smith

Margaret "Marge" (Daruda) Smith, 85, of Carmichaels, Pa. died unexpectedly Friday, May 4, 2012 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. She was born February 2, 1927 in German Township, Fayette County, Pa. a daughter of the late Nicholas and Helen (Dohanich) Daruda. Mrs. Smith was a 1945 graduate of German Township High School. She retired from the Carmichaels Area School District as a custodian at the age of 65 with over 15 years of service. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker, who loved crafting, sewing, baking, cooking, and working with her flowers and in her garden. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a pillar of her extended family. On June 9, 1951 she married Robert J. Smith, who died September 26, 1997. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon L. Miller, and her husband, Brad, of New Stanton, Pa. and Joyce L. Mertz of Uniontown, Pa.; three grandchildren, Brian R. Ferek, his wife Marta, of Greensburg, Pa., Krysta L. Murray, and her husband, Ken, of New Stanton and Robert A. Mertz, Jr. of Uniontown; two great grandchildren, Shawn T. Murray and Lukas D. Murray; a brother Charles Daruda of Adah, Pa. and many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents are four brothers, John, Nicholas and Michael Daruda and Frank Daruda who died in infancy; four sisters, Anna Skunda, Mary Hagan, Helen Verostek and Elizabeth Lang. Family and friends are welcomed from 3 to 8 P.M. on Monday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 with Rev. Bruce R. Judy officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
