Leonard W. DeVault, 88, of Dilliner, Pa. and formerly of Greensboro, Pa., died at 5:30 A. M. on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W. Va. He was born March 6, 1924 in National, W. Va., a son of the late Dawson Fleming and Ethel Mae (Drescher) DeVault. Mr. DeVault served with the U. S. Navy during World War II and resided most of his adult life in the Greensboro and Dilliner areas. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps and assisted with the construction of the Hoover Dam before working for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. He retired in 1983 as a lockman at Lock #7, Greensboro. Mr. DeVault was a member of the Greensboro Baptist Church, was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6303, Greensboro and served as a scoutmaster in Greensboro for several years. Mr. DeVault enjoyed gardening, woodworking, reading, golfing, doing crossword puzzles, playing his harmonica and mandolin and working as a handyman for his "girls". He was a beloved husband and father and especially cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren. On March 12, 1948, he married Louise Long, who survives. Also surviving are six daughters, Kandy R. Gashie and husband, Mike, of Greensboro, Vicki S. Anderson and husband, Roy, of New Salem, Pa., Pamela H. Yoskovich and husband, Jerry, of Greensboro, Debbie M. Gideon of Carmichaels, Robin L. Kavlick of Dilliner and Mary "Tweety" Blaker and husband, Brian, of Rices Landing, Pa.; 12 grandchildren, Andrea Rumble and husband, Mike, Jenny Gashie, Bridgette Parsons and husband, Kevin, Rebecca Fouse and husband, Joel, Stacey Flynn and husband, Tom, Major Joseph Yoskovich and wife, Tess, Sergeant Matthew Yoskovich, Christine Stephenson and husband, Kurt, Greg Husaim, Joyce Blaker, Amy Blaker and David Blaker; 18 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard D. DeVault and wife, Ruth, of Canton, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is an infant daughter, Joyce Louise DeVault; two brothers, James A. DeVault, who died in infancy and Arthur F. DeVault and four sisters, Alice DeVault, who died in infancy, Beatrice Hetrick, Margaret Savidge and Blanche Coda. Family and friends are welcome from 4 to 8 P.M. on Friday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 26, 2012. The Rev. Harold O. Kelley will officiate. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Morgantown, W. Va. with military honors accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 6303 and 3491 and Cumberland American Legion Post 400. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.
